Bangkok – Coldest Day in 30 years!

Via: Bangkok

Something is wrong in the Thai capital. Did you feel an unfamiliar impulse to reach for a sweater this morning? Is that little film of sweat missing from your upper lip?

Yeah, our Viking friends from Niflheim will disagree, but we can only describe today’s weather as cold.

The people who keep track of such things agree, declaring today to be the nation’s coldest in 30 years.

“Bangkok hit its coldest record in 30 years Thursday morning when the temperature fell to 15.6 Celsius (60Fahrenheit!),” said Songkram Aksorn, Deputy Director General of the Thai Meteorological Department.

After several years of cool seasons that were anything but mild, this year’s cool season – commonly called the “only-kind-of-hot season” – has lasted for almost three months.

In the kingdom’s northern and northeastern climes, where it gets genuinely cold, 63 people have died, though most were ill already. That’s more than twice the fatalities of last year.

Anti-government protest leaders shrug off the relative cold in a city where the slightest dip sends Bangkokians scrambling for fur-lined coats for their pets and selves.

“It’s been cold but not freezing, and Thai people generally enjoy cool weather the same way Westerners enjoy sunny skies,” said Akanat Promphan, protest spokesman.

The cold weather results from a northern cold front which has also affected Thailand’s rice crop, The Nation reported.

personal thought:

The anti-government protestors want to shut Bangkok down. Well I suggest, +/- 1o centimetres of SNOW, would work!
