Chiang Mai – Wins Best Lonely Planet Destination Award for 2013 – that’s right, again!

Chiang Mai was voted the Best Destination for Culture Experience in the Lonely Planet’s Traveler Destination Awards 2013. Wisut Buachum, Director of TAT Chiai is aang Mai, was received the award at the Hilton Hotel in Bangkok on 15th October.

Baan Mae Kampong in Chiang Mai also won the Best Homestay in Thailand, and Oasis Spa won Best Destination Spa in Thailand.

It’s not the first time Chiang Mai has won award. The city also won 2nd best destination award from Travel&Leisure magazine in 2010, and was chosen as one of the best ten tourist destinations by Lonely Planet in 2011. It also ranked in the first three destinations for elders in Southeast Asia from internationalliving.com.

Tourism in Chiang Mai has increased from 5.6 million people in 2011 to 6.5 million people in 2012, and revenue from tourism has risen from 43,000 million baht in 2011 to 53,000 million baht in 2012.
