Via: City News – Chiang Mai

On 30th October, 5.30 p.m. Chiang Mai City Police Station held a press conference after they arrested a teenage gang who they say brutally attacked people in Chiang Mai city during a night of violence that left one boy seriously injured

The‘Arashi’ gang, which means ‘borderless’, consists of Nakorn Mingkwan (26), who police say is the ringleader, as well three of his friends.

Police report that on 26th October the gang struck at the Lanna Palace Hotel intersection (the MAIN Night Bazaar intersection) on Changklan Road at around 5 a.m. After drinking the Arashi Gang fought with another gang. One of the young men was left behind by his friends and beaten severely until he lost consciousness.

It’s alleged that even when unconscious he was hit with stones repeatedly and driven over with motorcycles.

The gang then attacked Wanna Suka, the manager of Ping Lady, after she shouted at them for their attack on the boy. They later attacked people on the Iron Bridge and on other roads on a night of Clockwork Orange style violence.

The head of the gang, Nakorn had just been released from prison for a drugs charge.

personal thought:

I believe Chiang Mai is a ‘relatively’ safe city; however, you still need to be careful.
