Pattaya – business as usual

Via: Pattaya Daily News

The news arrives from a high ranking police officer and a many local people including flood refugees from Bangkok and other provinces. They complain that in Tambon Huay Yai, Amphur Banglamung, Chonburi a market selling miscellaneous goods, consumer products, gaming machines an illegal casino was also operating. The police sentry box located only 1 kilometer away – but the police turning an blind eye.

The high ranking police officer (very cool!) and local people gave photographic evidence of the illegal activities to the media.

A reporter was sent to investigate. At the scene they found the casino located 600-700 meters from Sukhumvit Road and approximately one kilometer from the Toongka police sentry box in Huay Yai, Chonburi province.

The illegal casino opened on October 21, 2011. The gambling took place every night under the following modus operandi: Cash only gambling divided into three groups. The first group roulette: betting on numbers 1-3 at 20 -100 THB. The second group coin flipping: head or tail 3 – 8 persons betting 100-500 THB each time. The third group pachinko, vertical pinball machine 20-100 THB per game.

Mr. Narong Wongsue one of the complainers told the reporter that he had escaped the floods in Chonburi province and was staying with his relatives. And as he was buying goods at Huay Yai market. He noticed the illegal gambling and was shocked that this was taking place so openly during these times of massive flooding disaster.

The locals told him don’t not to be afraid of the police because the gambling was under the protection of influential persons and powerful persons. The type of persons that the police does not dare to arrest. (I know, I’m shocked too!)
