CityNews – Condé Nast Traveler’s Readers Choice Survey results have Chiang Mai as one of the friendliest cities in the world.

In the top ten next to Florianopolis in Brazil and the Margaret River in Australia Chiang Mai stands proudly, a northern rose with seemingly few thorns.

Readers who took part in the survey said this about Chiang Mai:

“A lovely city with some of the nicest people I have ever met.”

“A place that I could live, hands down. The people were so incredibly nice in Chiang Mai.”

In addition to the list of friendliest cities in the world there was also a list of unfriendliest cities. Among them were Newark and Atlantic City in New Jersey, Kuwait City in Kuwait and Oakland in California.

Here are the winners of both rankings:

4. Charleston, South Carolina

5. Paro, Bhutan

6. Margaret River, Australia

Note:

I can’t say that ‘friendliness’ is the ONLY reason I’ve lived in Chiang Mai for the last +8 years; but man, it’s way up the list!
